FIRST AID KITS
Mountain biking and road cycling are both inherently dangerous sports. A simple crash can cause a seemingly endless number of cuts and bruises on your body. From extreme road rash to gravel cutting into your palms, most bike crashes lead to at least some blood being drawn. Because we love this dangerous sport and can’t seem to stop doing it no matter what, it is a good idea to ride with a first aid kit in case of a crash. It’s a bummer to think about, but crashing on our bikes is an inevitable occurrence, it’s more a matter of how soon it will happen. Since we can’t predict the answer to that question, it’s best to be prepared at all times. First Aid kits are a great first step in this preparation.
A first aid kit features items needed to help with minor injuries such as cuts and scrapes. If a more intensive injury occurs, it may be a good idea to call medical professionals to help you or your friend with the injury. Other first aid related items include self-heating blankets which keep you warm if you are stuck in a cold area, blister kits which help protect your feet during extra-long days, colds packs which can be applied to an injury that is swelling, and a fire lite kit which provides you with the means to start a fire if you need to stay warm until help arrives. A fire will also keep animals away if you are in the wilderness.
